Day #35 & #36: A light at the End of the Tunnel

My days continually meld together. I feel that it is in preparation for my ever-increasing lack of identity. Then I think about what I just said and realize that is preposterous. I am becoming more myself every day because I am learning to do just what I want. It's really quite thrilling to have time to yourself each day. If I hadn't woken up at 4am, I would never have had the opportunity to read most of the book I was avoiding finishing before book club tomorrow, take a 2-hour nap, and do laundry all before lunch. Once again, I have just now remembered that my laundry is unfolded and on my bed 9 hours later...but no one is keeping track of silly details like that.

Today, I met my first friend under the age of 5. His name is Noah. Noah is 3. Noah is incredibly talented. He showed me his dance moves which were startlingly akin to breakdancing and he showed me a variety of karate/fighting moves, most of which involved him flying through the air before kicking/punching the couch. I also spent some time talking with Noah's mom. She was not as active as Noah, but I still think we can be friends. Then, I made a trip. To shopping. This was in pursuit of my new shoes. Unfortunately, Nordstrom Rack was all out of cute flats in my size and I couldn't be bothered going to Nordstrom afterward. FORTUNATELY, my mom needed me to find a few things for her and the girls.  I am REALLY GOOD at shopping. In fact, I would like to make it  my career. My job title could be "Personal Shopper" and the job description could be "I spend other people's money." So I hooked them up with a few things--shoes mainly--and felt great about it. Almost everything is more expensive across the ocean, so I was happy to save them some money and get a little shopping out of my system.

Now I am about to start dinner. Tomato soup and grilled cheese. The only real failure I have had in cooking since being married was making Campbell's Tomato Soup. Yes, this is the kind you find in a can. Somehow, I forgot to put the two cans of water in the soup.... So tonight it my chance to redeem myself.  I can't imagine that it will be that hard.

I would like to leave you with a stirring photo that I came across in my internet perusal this evening.
I can't figure out why one of them is so unhappy....

Evening #32...an insight into what I do with my spare time.

Well, nothing too exciting to report. Yes, I'm home alone late at night once again. Somehow this has reduced me to flipping through the few free channels we get and sitting on the couch munching. I'm not sure why I sound so despondent.... The point is that I decided it was time to update my blog when I flipped to the Discovery channel and saw that the show was "Hogs Gone Wild"--a show all about wild hogs. In this particular episode, they are trying to catch one in a field. Just talking about it makes me bored. Wild Hogs also sounds less exciting than calling them BOARS. Boars make them sound infinitely more dangerous.  Saying boar also reminds me of Willow and cavorting through Italy with my father driving us down dirt roads.  If you google wild hog, several pictures come up of that movie that no one I know even saw... and then this:

Something about this boar reminds me of a fluffy bear cub--before they're intimidating. If you google boar, you might find this picture instead:

Way more intimidating. I mean, this boar is suited for battle. This picture actually comes from a website entitled "Celtic Boar: A Soul Journey by Michael Honeth" He says "This is my guardian power animal. The boar is worshipped by the deities and is the shaman's most dedicated earth spirit. Tenacious and fearless, the boar earns respect."  Case in point. Boars are cooler than hogs. Day #29: TOO HOT.

Something in the Northern California air decided to heat up today. It was too hot. Too hot for this pregnant body to handle, and too hot for no breeze and no air conditioning. Even now, at 7:11pm it is 85 degrees in my apartment. It's times like these when I think that I might be an angry person. Because I feel angry. I'm angry at my apartment for not having air conditioning, I'm angry at my pregnant body, I'm angry at the weather for not giving me a breeze at the minimum, and I'm angry at myself for not having better plans to get somewhere air conditioned.

In other news, I did make a trip to Target. There, I found these gems for just $4.99.

If I didn't have them already, I would have purchased them for myself. And if I had any money, I would have purchased them to save for gifts at a later date. In fact, I might still do that because I cannot think of any way in which that ten dollars could go to waste....

Also, while driving, I came across this bumper sticker:

You might not find this significant, but after learning a little about Palo Alto while at the Children's theatre, this says so much. I think that 12 of the 13 kids in Charlie Brown speak at least two languages. A handful of them speak three, and one of them speaks FIVE. The oldest of these children is eleven. In Palo Alto, no one cares if your student was on the Honor Roll, EVERYONE IS GETTING STRAIGHT A'S! So forget stickers that say "My child is on the Honor Roll at Johnsn Elementary" they make bumper stickers here that say "My child was student of the month." What I really want to see is a bumper sticker that says "My child could kick your child's student of the month bu**." (censored to save my mother from one of her least favorite words)

Day #9 & Day #10...

...somehow melded together.  In these past two days I have realized one very important thing: I have a FABULOUS Boyf.  Not only is he all of the things you want in someone but aren't going to say because it sounds dumb when you actually write it out, but he is the BEST HELPER EVER.  I am no good at being a domestic. I love to cook, I love to bake, but I HATE cleaning. And you know how your mom probably accomplished a lot and when she started something, she made sure to finish it right away so her mess wasn't all over the house? (my mom was that way at least) Well, I have no idea how to do that. I am easily distracted.  I will start something (like the Laundry, for instance), half finish it (bring it up from the dryer downstairs), and then forget about it until 10pm when we go back into the bedroom and our bed has no sheets on it and the clothes are still in the basket getting wrinkled. Boyf was always the solution to these problems. He finished things when I got distracted. Now that I'm on my own, I'm realizing that maybe I'm not as good at this as he is....  When I told Boyf this, he said "but remember how you have ADHD?" And I started to laugh.

Because I had actually forgotten.

Day #4

Today began as so many days do: productively.

I went to the gym.

I organized a few bills.

I got out my textbooks.

I got ready.

I practiced the piano a bit.

Then I got distracted.

Distraction led me to The Container Store

Where I purchased things to beautify my desk.
how can you blame me? THEY WERE HAVING A SALE!

I returned home, set up my new things, and got to surfing the internet because my computer suddenly became more inviting when surrounded by such beauty.

During the course of the late afternoon I also found my way to 7-Eleven where I purchased this guy:

...and then to Trader Joe's, where I purchased the last necessities for the dinner we will probably not eat tonight. Who wants to eat turkey burgers at 9:40?

I can't say Day #4 was a failure.
